POST-SECONDARY APPLICATION PROCESS
WHEN ?
Create your Student Transcript Service account. (ASAP)
Start:
Each institution has a different date (usually October 1) to start applying.
Deadline:
Anytime between January 1st and June 1st (most often Jan 15 or Feb 28)
First Applied, First Registered Post-secondary Institutions
It is very important to put in an early application especially to post-secondary institutions that work on a first applied, first registered basis such as Camosun Early applications will give you more choice.
GPA or Research Universities
Ontario universities have an early admission deadline in early January.
UBC and Emily Carr have a deadline of January 15.
SFU – deadline for admission is January 31st
Most GPA universities in Canada have a deadline of February 28th.
Oct 1 open
Langara, VCC, Thompson Rivers University, Emily Carr University, Douglas College, UBC, SFU, and UVIC.
Note: Nursing is very competitive. If you are planning a Nursing career at a BC college or university, it is advised to focus on achieving the highest grade average possible, as well as accumulating volunteer hours, applying early and having great references.
Nov 1
Most other universities in Canada and the USA are now accepting applications.
Jan 1
Set a goal to apply to everywhere that “works” for you by January 1st.
HOW ?
In BC:
Go to EducationPlannerBC.
This site makes it quick and easy to apply to BC’s public post-secondary institutions.
Students will need:
–PEN #– Provincial Education Number (9-digit identity number from the Provincial Ministry of Education)
– your PEN # is also needed to access your provincial exam grades.
-A copy of your Grade 11 final grades.
-Credit or debit card to pay application fees.
-Save the application confirmation number and the fee confirmation.
Checklist:
1) Pay the application fee online with a credit card.
2) Your application will not be fully processed until the payment is received.
3) Your application will not be fully processed without a PEN # number.
4) Submit your application and save/print the page with your application ID number.
5) By letter or e-mail, you will receive your permanent university or college ID number that is used to access your status, pay tuition, and choose courses. Don’t lose this number!
6) At UBC (and a few other institutes), you must create this ID number before you can apply to a faculty.
In other Provinces
In Alberta go to ApplyAlberta.
In Ontario, apply to the universities via the OUAC ( Ontario Universities Application Service) for early admission by early January . This is not a deadline but a cut-off for early admission.

AFTER YOU HAVE APPLIED
Login to your personal site at the university/college using the student number sent to you from that institution.
On this site, you will self-report your grades, apply for scholarships, submit extra applications, pay tuition, choose classes and correspond with future profs.
